Every time some one has unprotected sex they put themselves at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease which can be easily transferred from one person to another and in the United States alone over 15 million cases of sexually transmitted disease cases reported annually.
Sexually transmitted diseases can have a bigger effect than just the initial infection, especially in women, if not treated but sadly many times this ends up being the case. Sexually transmitted diseases are prominent in economically challenged areas and regions where health care is not a given readily but considered a luxury. Sexually transmitted infections can lead to are pelvic inflammatory disease, which can cause infertility; some can even lead to death.
The only sure way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases is by not indulging in it but some experts claim that contraceptive devices, such as condoms can be a preventative measure, but abstinence is the only guarantee.
Sexually transmitted diseases come in many forms but there are some that are prevalent in today’s society such as the Human Papilloma Virus, which is believed to be one of the main causes of cervical cancer and Herpes Virus which has no known cure at present. However treatment is available for Herpes and there are some home remedies that may help.
Syphilis has a long history as a sexually transmitted disease and is the one sexually transmitted disease that can easily be treated and cured. Syphilis can progress if untreated and affect the nervous system and brain leading to dementia and even death.
There are also commonly sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea which often infect a person at the same time but both can be treated successfully however if they go untreated they can lead to future problems with the reproductive system.
Undoubtedly the most deadly sexually transmitted disease is HIV/AIDS which used to be considered as a death warrant however, in recent years new treatments have been developed that help in prolonging the life of an HIV patient. It was once believed that HIV only affected homosexuals; however no one is safe from this disease that is raging through Africa and continues to have a foothold in other parts of the world including the United States. This infection progresses to AIDS and death for many who contract it. Centers for Disease Control tell us that more than 50 million people worldwide are infected with the H IV virus. HIV and AIDS have progressed to epidemic proportions on the continent of Africa.
