In November of 2001 Bayer and GlaxoSmithKline signed a worldwide co-promotion and co-development agreement for Levitra.  The medication has received regulatory approval for the treatment of penile dysfunction in over sixty-three countries. Being one of the first drugs for problems associated with erectile dysfunction to come to the market with approval in August 2003 from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Levitra belongs to a class of drugs called "PDE5 inhibitors." It works by increasing blood flow to the penis to improve erectile function. The ingredient active in the medication works specifically activating a chain of events that occurs in the penis during sexual arousal, ensuring that a man's penis filled with blood and becomes erect.

The formulation Levitra was developed for the sole purpose of addressing the issue of penile dysfunction affecting many men today. The subject for a great many years was an embarrassment to men to admit they had this problem but once the drugs came to the market and became increasingly accepted, more men came forward to express their concerns about having this problem.
