Uprima manufacturer - Abbott

Uprima was manufactured as a joint venture between Abbott Laboratories, headquartered in Abbott Park, Ill., and Takeda Chemical Industries, Ltd. of Osaka, Japan. Abbott Laboratories manufactures and markets the medication to the United Kingdom. Abbott Laboratories and was founded by Chicago physician Wallace Calvin Abbott in 1888. Abbott Laboratories is a health care and pharmaceuticals company. It has around 60,000 employees and operates in 130 countries. The corporate headquarters are in Abbott Park, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago, IL, near its manufacturing center in North Chicago, Illinois. In 2001, Abbott acquired Knoll, the pharmaceutical division of BASF.

From the very early days, the company championed scientific investigation to benefit people. Using alkaloid medicine, Abbott’s founders were pioneers in devising new and better ways to deliver medicine granules, to care for patients. These scientific investigations have resulted in some remarkable breakthroughs in medicine, not just in the problems of erectile dysfunction. Abbott has been shown to be at the forefront of research and is a major contributor to medical research, which includes anesthesia, animal welfare, diabetes care, cardiovascular medication, amongst very many others. Abbott, in 1985, developed the first licensed test to detect HIV antibodies in blood and the company’s retrovirus and hepatitis test are used to screen more than half the world’s donated blood supply.

The importance of Uprima to Abbott should not be underestimated. The active ingredient of Uprima is seen to be of help in cases of Parkinson’s disease, effectively by working on the imbalance of chemicals in the brain. By researching these neurological problems, Abbott is helping the medical profession understand better the complex working of the human brain.

By 2005 Abbott employed 65,000 people, had sales of 22.5 billion dollars and has products sold in over 130 countries.
